Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is so important for a blog if you want to get more and more traffics/visitors to your blog. Sitemap will be so helpful for your blog to reach in the top of the search list. A Sitemap helps the Search Engines for better crawling and categorizing a website. It's so easy also to create and verify a sitemap for your public website. Lets follow the steps given below to add Sitemap for a blog and to verify that.

Step 01 Add Your Website to Google Webmaster Tool
Click here to visit Google's Webmaster-tool page and log in here providing the same information you use to sign in to Google Sites.
Step 02 Provide the Base URL of Your Website
Now you have to add your website here clicking on the writings Add a Site.... After clicking on Add a Site, a pop-up window will open like the image given below. Now you have to provide the Base URL of your website into the Text Input Box. Then click on the button Continue.
Step 03 Copy the Meta Tag
Now select the Radio Button Add meta tag to your site's homepage. Then click on Next. Go to Instructions Box and copy the meta tag.
Step 04 Open the Site in a New Tab
Now press Ctrn+T to open a new tab but don't close the Webmaster Tools Page. However, now visit the Google Site you want to verify. Now select Manage Site from the More Actions drop-down menu. Then select the General Tab under Site Settings area. Now paste the Meta Tag that you have copied into the box Google Webmaster Tools Verification and finally click on Save Settings.
Step 05 Visit Webmaster Tools Page Again
Finally go back to Google Webmaster Tools page and click on Verify.
Step 01 Go to the Homepage of Google Webmaster Tools
Visit the home page of Google Webmaster Tools and select your blog or website you have added before. Then click on Site Configuration from the left side menu. Again click on Sitemaps and then click on ADD/TEST SITEMAP from the uppermost right side. A pop-up window will open with an Input Box.
Step 02 Submit the Sitemap
Now type atom.xml or rss.xml in the input box. Then click on Submit Sitemap. You should not type rss.xml if you haven't subscribed for RSS yet. Now refresh/reload the page.
Verify Your Website with Google Webmaster Tools
Step 01 Add Your Website to Google Webmaster Tool
Click here to visit Google's Webmaster-tool page and log in here providing the same information you use to sign in to Google Sites.
Step 02 Provide the Base URL of Your Website
Now you have to add your website here clicking on the writings Add a Site.... After clicking on Add a Site, a pop-up window will open like the image given below. Now you have to provide the Base URL of your website into the Text Input Box. Then click on the button Continue.
Step 03 Copy the Meta Tag
Now select the Radio Button Add meta tag to your site's homepage. Then click on Next. Go to Instructions Box and copy the meta tag.
Step 04 Open the Site in a New Tab

How to Add Sitemap for Your Blog/Website
