WinRAR is a Software, generally we use to extract RAR/ZIP files or folders and to create ZIP/RAR files. There are some Games, we can't install without having installed WinRAR Software. We also create RAR or ZIP files to keep save our Data from Computer Viruses. Now I am going to share a way to protect your files or folders with password using WinRAR software. Lets see how to do so. You need to have WinRAR installed in your Computer before starting. When you will protect a file/folder by password following the method given below, then no one will be extract that without providing the password. Though this is a very simple and plain way to protect a folder or file, but this is also an effective way to protect your data.
Step 01 Open WinRAR Software First
At first you need to run the WinRAR Software. To run WinRAR, you need to go to Start Menu>All Programs>WinRAR.
Step 02 Click on Select All if you Open the WinRAR for the First Time
If you run WinRAR for the first time, then you will get the Settings Window. Then you have to click on Select All and then click on OK.
Step 03 Select the File or Folder you want to Protect
After clicking on OK, you will get a new window to work. Now browse your File or Folder to make it Password Protected RAR file. Click on the left bottom side corner Drive Icon to browse your file.
Step 04 Find Out Add Files to Archive from the Menu
Now you have to select a folder as you like to make it Password Protected RAR file. Then right click on the selected folder, a pop-up menu will open. Now click on Add files to archive. You may press Ctrl+A also after selecting the folder.
Step 05 Make the RAR File
After clicking on "Add files to archive", another new pop-up window will open like the image given below. Now check the Radio Button where is written Lock archive and then click on OK button. After completing the processes, you will get the RAR file.
Step 06 Add Password for the Achieved File/Folder
Now right click on the RAR file and select Set default password or press Ctrl+P to do the same. After clicking on Set default password, you will get the following window to add a Password. So provide the password and click on OK. Check the Radio Buttons where is written Show password and Encrypt file names for better security.
After doing so, you will be asked to provide the password if you want to browse the file or folder!
